Arbeloa could miss two months

Alvaro Arbeloa’s knee injury will keep him out of action for twice as long as first thought and may threaten his involvement at the World Cup.

Arbeloa injured his right knee in early March and was originally expected to be out for three weeks, Marca has reported.

But it is now said that six weeks is more likely recovery time, although the defender could miss as much as eight weeks, which would leave him as a major doubt for Vicente Del Bosque’s World Cup squad.

Arbeloa has said he hopes to be back in time to play in the Champions League final on May 24, should Real Madrid reach that stage.

He would then be ready for the World Cup, he told Yahoo Eurosport, if he is called up by Del Bosque.

Arbeloa is suffering from a small crack in his right kneecap.
