Tata to Argentina after World Cup?

Reports in Spain have suggested Argentina will approach Barcelona’s Tata Martino to replace Alejandro Sabella after the World Cup.

Mundo Deportivo has claimed the Argentina Football Association (AFA) have identified Martino as the ideal candidate to replace Sabella, who was in Barcelona to meet with Martino and Barca’s Argentine players this week.

Martino signed a two-year contract with Barca when he was appointed last year but the Catalans could be compensated for the final year of his deal if Martino wants to take the national team job.

He has spoken highly of the experience of Coaching Barca but it is known that the role of Argentina Coach is one of Martino’s dream jobs.

Martino spent five years in charge of the Paraguay national team and so Coaching at international level is not alien to him.

The AFA would also like to appoint Diego Simeone but it is thought El Cholo will remain at Atletico Madrid for a while yet and eventually take another position in Italy before he considers the national team.

Martino is understood to have a good relationship with a number of the current Argentina squad and also the incumbent Sabella, which the AFA feel contribute to making him their preferred choice.
