Pizzi pleased to regain face

Valencia Coach Juan Antonio Pizzi was pleased his side restored their image against Athletic Bilbao after losing to Rayo Vallecano.

Los Che drew 1-1 with Athletic and while Pizzi was disappointed not to take three points, he told reporters after the match that his side had some of their dignity back.

“We’ve reversed the negative image from the last game,” the Argentine said.

The game was marked by some controversial decisions as Athletic netted from a questionable penalty while Valencia’s opener appeared to be scored from an offside position.

“There are times when it’s very difficult to see an infringement and we’ve all had those decisions go for and against us,” Pizzi added when asked about the officiating.

“But there are other times when the images are very clear.

“Referees are human but the evidence says otherwise than the decision. One error comes from a dubious position. I thought the penalty was very clear.”

It was put to Pizzi that the penalty to Athletic was awarded because the officials wanted to compensate the visitors for giving Valencia’s offside goal but Pizzi argued two wrongs wouldn’t make a right.

“In that case there’d be two mistakes. That wouldn’t be proper.”
