Marcelo: Almost perfect

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has said the side played almost the perfect game in the 3-0 win over Levante.

The victory takes Los Blancos three points clear of Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga and Marcelo was on the score sheet, getting the game’s second goal – his first since September 2012.

Speaking to Canal+ after the match, Marcelo said there was little Madrid could have improved on.

“It wasn’t the perfect game but it was almost perfect,” the Brazil international said.

“We were weaker in the first half than in the second but what’s important is that we haven’t conceded goals.

“It shows that we are much better now than before.”

Marcelo added that after the result of the weekend – Barcelona losing to Real Valladolid and Atletico Madrid beating Celta Vigo – a Madrid victory was crucial.

“We knew we couldn’t lose but we still gave our opponents a lot of respect,” he said.

“To be honest I’ve been working hard to improve my right foot,” Marcelo said of his goal, scored from his weaker side.

“If it helps [Carlo] Ancelotti I’ll play on the right [after Dani Carvajal was injured].”
