Clos Gomez to ref Clasico

Carlos Clos Gomez has been appointed as the referee for el Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona later in March.

The top two meet on March 23 at Santiago Bernabeu and radio station La Cope has reported Gomez will be in charge.

He has never officiated a League meeting between the sides but was given the first leg of the 2012 Spanish Super Cup, as well as the first leg of last season’s Copa del Rey semi-final.

AS adds Gomez was criticised by Barcelona for allowing some physical Madrid challenges to go unpunished in the latter match.

Gomez has been on the wrong side of Madrid as well – sending off Sergio Ramos in the 2-2 draw with Osasuna, a decision the Competitions Committee later overturned, and dismissing both Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho in last season’s Copa del Rey final against Atletico Madrid.

Mourinho also produced a list of what he felt were errors made by Gomez during Madrid’s 1-0 defeat to Sevilla.
