Enrique: Elche more effective

Celta Vigo Coach Luis Enrique has bemoaned his side’s defeat at Elche, pointing the finger at a lack of firepower.

Carles Gil scored the only goal of the game but Enrique felt Celta would have won the game if they had a more potent attack.

“I don’t think anyone was expecting this result,” Enrique said post-match.

“But the teams that score goals are the ones that are rewarded.

“It was the only chance they had in the second half. They were more effective than we were.

“It’s a very bad result for us because we’ve lost points to a direct rival.”

Enrique added that if Celta had the budget to attract a prolific striker the game would have gone much differently.

“All we lacked as a goal. That can cost a lot of money though,” he said.

“I congratulate my team on their efforts. They’ve controlled much of the game and wanted to win. We’ve lost, unfairly I feel.”
