Valverde: Don’t call it a slump

Ernesto Valverde has rejected suggestions that Athletic Bilbao are in a slump, while admitting results have been disappointing.

Athletic have only won one of their last five League games but remain in fourth place, with Valverde telling a Press conference prior to hosting Granada that it’s important not to overreact.

“I wouldn’t go so far as to say we’ve had a downturn,” Valverde argued.

“But it’s not been as good as before. Everyone has a time where they’re in crisis. If we win and play well then we’re not in crisis.

“The League is nearing the end. We need to hold our nerve and defend our position. Every team has pressure at this point of the season.”

Valverde did concede that it was important his side beat Granada at San Mames on Friday.

“It would be a very important three points,” the Coach agreed.

“Give anyone three points now and it would be very significant.

“Granada need the points to avoid relegation. They’re a very strong and determined tand determined team.”
