Benzema delighted to match Ronaldo

Karim Benzema admitted he is thrilled to have reached the same goal tally for Real Madrid as Ronaldo.

Benzema scored twice as Madrid beat Villarreal 4-2 on Saturday, netting his 103rd and 104th goals for Los Blancos.

Former Brazil international Ronaldo reached the same total in 177 appearances while Benzema has done it in 215, but the France forward isn’t concerned and needing more games.

“I’m very happy to get to that level,” he told reporters.

“For me, Ronaldo is the best ever.”

Benzema added that he is less interested in personal milestones than picking up points for Madrid.

“It’s hard to score but I have the help of my teammates, so I am enjoying this moment because I scored.

“But the most important thing is to win games.

“I see we have a good team, with a lot of depth in the squad.

“We are ready to continue like this and Madrid is always one of the favourites.

“We need more games like today to strengthen our position.”

Jese was also on the score sheet – with Gareth Bale grabbing the opener – and Benzema was full of praise for his young teammate.

“He’s in fine form. He’s a player I really like.

“Jese is young but he is already a good player.

“This is a great team with lots of strikers, and that’s good for everyone.”

Asked if Madrid missed Cristiano Ronaldo, who sat out the first game of his three-match ban, Benzema replied that any team would.

“He’s the best player in the world,” Benzema argued.
