Ancelotti blocks Coentrao move

Carlo Ancelotti has prevented Fabio Coentrao leaving Real Madrid in the winter transfer window.

AS reports that the Coach prefers to keep Coentrao even though he has rarely played this season as he wants two specialist left-backs in his squad.

Marcelo is one and while Alvaro Arbeloa or Nacho could be used in the position in an emergency, Ancelotti is not willing to let Coentrao leave despite the player looking for a way out.

Moves to Manchester United and Napoli have been mooted while reports from Italy have claimed Milan were considering an approach as well.

But not even the interest of Ancelotti’s former club will convince him to let the Portugal international leave, the publication states.

Coentrao was close to joining United in the summer transfer window but the deadline passed without the formalities completed.

Madrid had already engaged Guilherme Siqueira as a replacement. The Granada left-back subsequently joined Benfica.
