Barcelona will sign Lionel Messi to a new contract in the near future, with a pay packet on par with Cristiano Ronaldo’s.
Marca reports that the club’s new President, Josep Maria Bartomeu, will finalise the deal that has been discussed at length already.
The agreement will see Messi go from earning €13m to closer to Ronaldo’s €18m. Messi’s current contract includes bonuses of €3m, as does Ronaldo’s.
Messi’s father and agent agreed the contract with Sandro Rosell prior to Rosell’s resignation this week. Marca adds the only delay has been Barca’s desire to renew Andres Iniesta’s contract first. That was done in December and Messi’s new deal is expected to be completed before the resumption of the Champions League in February.
