Siqueira was a Madrid player

Granada’s sporting director has revealed Guilherme Siqueira a Real Madrid player – for half an hour.

Speaking to AS, Juan Carlos Cordero confirmed the Brazilian was set to move to the Santiago Bernabeu on transfer deadline day as a replacement for Fabio Coentrao, who was wanted on loan by Manchester United.

But Coentrao stayed in Spain and as a result, Siqueira’s move to Madrid broke down. He then joined Benfica for the season.

“For half an hour there was a contract signed with Real Madrid.

“But it was not registered because of the transfer of Coentrao to Manchester United never happened.

“Both Siqueira and Granada know the transfer was very nearly done.

“It was a loan with an option to buy. It was for over €1m. Maybe in the future it can be done.

“Siqueira is a great player and remains contracted to Granada.

“Benfica have the option to buy for €8m but he has two more years on his contract with us.”

Madrid and Granada meet on Saturday afternoon at the Santiago Bernabeu.
