Real Madrid assistant coach Zinidine Zidane has said he feels ready to take sole charge of a team.
Zidane added that he was happy working with Carlo Ancelotti for the moment but has made up his mind that Coaching is for him.
In an interview with L’Equipe, quoted by Marca, Zidane said his competitive spirit was too strong to stay as a No. 2.
“I want to repay everything Madrid have done for me,” he first clarified.
“But I have to accelerate. I’m a competitor, it’s in my blood.”
Zidane recently obtained his coaching qualifications and explained how he would set-up his team if he were the man in charge.
“My team would have balance but go on the attack. It’d be simple but attacking.”
He also noted that he already had in mind who he would appoint as his assistants, but didn’t name names.
“My trust is not gained easily,” he added when asked about working with players.
“But when I give it, it’s for people to use.
“My ambition is to continue creating and giving.
“I know what I can do, what I can transmit. And I will be more useful if I Coach a team.”
Zidane added that he knows he could remain on the sidelines forever if he so chose, but he wants to push himself and sees coaching as a way to do so.
“I force myself to act. I could stay out but I want to try.
“I know my limits and my desires. I want to see if I can fulfil my ambitions.
“But I also want to work hard, learn and progress. I want to see how far I can get as a Coach.”
Despite his aims, Zidane insists he is content with working under Ancelotti and thanked both the Italian and Madrid President Florentino Perez for the opportunity.
“Ancelotti is a good Coach and I can learn at his side.
“It’s the same thing with the President. I’m lucky to have a relationship of respect and affection since he came to me in Turin.
“Without him I never would have gone to Madrid.”
