Barca reveal full Neymar cost

Barcelona have produced a document they say breaks down the Neymar transfer in full, showing a transfer fee of €57.1m.

The step comes after allegations made by club member Jordi Cases that the club had not revealed the full cost of signing Neymar, and that the now former President Sandro Rosell or others benefitted personally from the deal.

Rosell has been called to testify in the subsequent lawsuit filed by Cases and stepped down as Barca President on Thursday. He denies any impropriety.

Josep Maria Bartomeu was named Rosell’s successor and at a Press conference on Friday, Bartomeu and the club’s head of football, Raul Sanllehi, gave what they say is a full breakdown of the transfer.

The document says Barcelona paid €57.1m for Neymar, broken down as €17.1m to Santos and €40m to a company called N and N, named after and operated by Neymar’s parents.

A sum of €29.1m went on operating costs, explained as €2m to N and N for Neymar’s father to act as a scout in Brazil, €7.9m for three future players from Santos, €2.5m to Neymar’s charitable foundation and €4m for marketing.

The latter two amounts are spread over the five years of Neymar’s contract.

Neymar will also receive €8.8m in salary per year for a total salary of €44m over the course of the contract.

The full cost of the transfer and Neymar’s salary combined comes in at €130.2m

Mundo Deportivo adds that Sanllehi categorically denied rumours Barca paid €9m to Santos disguised as fees for friendlies.

Sanllehi added that the €40m penalty clause paid to N and N was to prevent other clubs swooping for Neymar, although he also noted that in 2013 Barca were informed there were clubs willing to pay more than €40m for the player.

“It’s the first time, and it will be the last time, we explain the salary and all the items we are paying for,” Sanllehi said.
