Rosell resigns as Barca president

It has been announced that Sandro Rosell has resigned as Barcelona President after three-and-a-half years in the role.

High Court judge Pablo Ruz confirmed on Thursday that the Blaugrana chief is to be called to a hearing to answer questions over allegations of ‘misappropriation of funds’.

One club member has alleged Rosell or others may have profited personally from the deal that saw Neymar move from Santos to Camp Nou, and after speculation mounted this afternoon, the businessman has confirmed that with the hearing imminent he will step down from the board.

Vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu will complete Rosell’s term, which expires in 2016.

“My time here has come to an end,” Rosell said.

“I ask the club members for their support,” Bartomeu added. “I encourage them to continue to have confidence in this project.

“The future of the Camp Nou will continue to be a priority.

“We are going to be very firm in the defence and demand the utmost respect for our club.”

A second Press conference has been announced for Friday.
