Pele backs Ronaldo for Ballon d’Or

Brazilian legend Pele has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo will walk away with the Ballon d’Or later on this evening.

The World Cup-winner is in Zurich this evening to receive an honorary award from FIFA, having never picked up the Golden Ball trophy as a player.

And the 73-year-old has revealed that the Real Madrid man will probably be handed the prize, whilst also commenting on his own accolade.

“The main prize will be Cristiano’s,” he told reporters.

“When I played I was not eligible for the Ballon d’Or [because it was for European players only] and FIFA have decided to honour the only player with three World Cups.

“I think they should give me at least three more to compensate!” he joked.
