Madrid offer Coentrao to United

Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao has been offered a second chance to join Premier League champions Manchester United.

Reports claim Carlo Ancelotti has told the Portuguese, who saw a summer move to Old Trafford collapse due to problems with paperwork, that he is free to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this month.

On from this, The Daily Mirror that Coentrao’s agent Jorge Mendes has been in touch with United to attempt to resurrect the deal – this time on a permanent basis for a fee of £12m, around €14.5m.

Through injury and competition for places, Coentrao has played only four times in La Liga for Madrid so far this season and is in search of regular first team football in an effort to safeguard his place in the Portugal side ahead of the summer’s World Cup.

United manager David Moyes has made the signing of a new left-back a priority after being rebuffed in his attempts to sign Leighton Baines from former club Everton.
