Reports in the German Press have claimed that Real Madrid offered Robert Lewandowski a bumper contract to keep him away from Bayern Munich.
It was confirmed on Saturday evening that the Poland international had moved from Borussia Dortmund to the Bavarian giants.
But Der Spiegel have insisted that Los Blancos tried to tempt the goalscorer by offering him a six-year deal worth between €9.5m-€10m per season.
The paper writes that the reigning European champions learned of the move from President Florentino Perez, and considered it ‘an act of war’.
As such, Pep Guardiola’s men stepped up their efforts to sign Lewandowski, eventually bagging their man.
