Del Bosque has voted for Ribery

Vicente del Bosque has mused on his hopes for 2014, as well as revealing who else he has voted for in the FIFA Ballon d’Or.

The Spain head Coach has already revealed his three selections for the Coach of the Year for 2013’s FIFA awards, as well as two of the three choices he has made in the Ballon d’Or, voting for La Roja’s Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.

“I voted consciously on what I thought. I did not want to enter into any battle. It is a minor issue for me,” Del Bosque has reflected this week on Onda Cero.

“I voted for Xavi and Iniesta. They are on the list, I could not vote for the others.

“In third is Ribery for a logical reason… He is the one who has won the League, the Cup and Champions League and he has qualified with his national team for the World Cup.

“He is a worthy representative of Bayern Munich.”

Del Bosque also spoke with Radio Marca this week, in which he has turned 63, and mused on what he hopes the new year will bring.

“We have a clear goal for 2014, it is a difficult goal, and it is the 2014 World Cup,” the former Real Madrid man reflected. “We want people in Spain to feel proud of their national team.

“We have led the FIFA World Rankings for six years and that means that we have not been based around flashes, but that the European Championships and the World Cup are the result of regularity.”

The tactician also commented on the potential condition of the players come the end of the season, as well as his options in making a 23-man selection.

“The players will arrive loaded at the end of the season, but we will ask them for that little bit extra and I am sure that they have it as they are very well prepared.

“The concern is how many good players there are for the national team, we have great strikers, very good people in midfield, I would take many, but as always I try to bring those who I believe are the best.”
