Pizzi edging closer to Valencia

Juan Antonio Pizzi is edging closer to becoming Valencia’s new Coach, after apparently asking to rescind his contract with San Lorenzo.

The retired striker, who has just won the Argentine League with the club, has been strongly linked with Los Che, who are in the market for a replacement for the sacked Miroslav Djukic.

On from general manager Rufete’s believed prioritisation to sign Pizzi, reports today are that the 45-year-old, who played the 1993-94 season at Mestalla, has cut short a vacation to request to San Lorenzo Vice-President Marcelo Tinelli that he be released from the final year of his contract.

Mundo Deportivo report that Tinelli has granted the request, but AS believe otherwise, whilst Superdeporte believe that Pizzi’s representative is currently negotiating with Tinelli and President Matias Lammens over the economic terms of that release, with it believed there is a €200,000 penalty clause in the Coach’s contract.
