Martin Demichelis’ lawyers have issued a statement confirming legal action will be taken to recover around €400,000 owed to him by Malaga.
The Argentine left the Costa del Sol outfit at the expiry of his contract in the summer, to join Atletico Madrid, before later on being sold to Manchester City.
However, the centre-back is still owed a significant sum of back wages at La Rosaleda and will now be taking action in the courts.
“The priority at all times was a friendly and open dialogue, as it is the most appropriate formula for the solution of this dispute, which still remains open from the position of our client,” a statement by the player’s representatives, from legal firm Gomez-Acebo & Pombo Abogados.
“The player will not make any statement, to protect the image of a club that deserves respect, Malaga.”
AS say that Malaga sources have informed them that a payment of €800,000 was made to Demichelis in the summer, to clear a majority of debt owed to the player, who turns 33 tomorrow, and that they are working to respond further as soon as possible.
The Joint Committee of the LFP (Spanish Football League) and AFE (Spanish Players’ Association) is due to meet before the end of the year and could restrict Malaga from signing any players until they clear their debt with Demichelis.
Today the AFE has detailed to the LFP all outstanding claims from players owed money by various clubs in the Primera and Segunda Division.
In total there are 34 complaints, to 13 clubs with an economic total of €1,533,319, representing an increase on last year’s complaints, of which 15 were presented across eight clubs and set at a total of €467,673.
