Alcaraz apologises for elimination

Lucas Alcaraz offered his apology to fans after Granada’s Copa del Rey exit at the hands of Alcorcon on Tuesday night.

The Andalucians let slip a 2-0 advantage from the first leg of this Round of 32 tie to finish all level after full time and extra time, before the Segunda outfit won through with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out result.

“I apologise to the fans because being eliminated in front of thousands of people is a disappointment,” Alcaraz mused post-match.

“We are all guilty of what has happened, just as we are when we win.

“We threw it away in the first half, whilst in the second we were able to create many chances, but were unable to score a goal and then tried more with our hearts than our heads.

“These elimination rounds are poisoned because the opponent has very little to lose. The President told us that the Cup was important and those that have failed have been us.

“We played with players who have played many minutes as starters this season, we had to play with the maximum intensity in the first half and we did not.

“This may affect us in the League as it has left the players depleted.”
