Valencia general manager Rufete is seen as keen on Los Che bringing in Juan Antonio Pizzi as Miroslav Djukic’s replacement.
Reports in several outlets in Spain today are that the club, who yesterday announced Djukic’s dismissal after less than six months at the helm, have identified former striker Pizzi as their first choice replacement.
The 45-year-old Argentine-born Coach enjoyed a 15-year-old playing career that listed a number of Spanish teams including Valencia and Barcelona, whilst he also represented Spain at international level.
Reports today are that on from leading San Lorenzo to the Argentine national championship this season, Pizzi is the subject of concerted efforts from Rufete, although reports on the Coach’s current contract in Argentina are split between holding one and three more years on it.
Nico Estevez, who yesterday was appointed as caretaker Coach, will likely sit on the bench for Valencia’s closing games of 2013, against Nastic in the Copa del Rey and Real Madrid in the League, whilst Luis Milla, Rubi, Victor Fernandez and Marcelo Bielsa are seen as alternatives should talks with Pizzi fail to materialise.
Meanwhile, Roberto Fabian Ayala, who was in line for the position of general manager before Rufete’s appointment, is set to have his return to Mestalla agreed imminently.
The retired defender is believed in line for a directorial capacity, with an emphasis on his role being based in Argentina and South America and is reportedly already having his contract with the club drawn up.
Ayala is believed to have also had his say in recommending Pizzi to Valencia.
