Bale on life at Madrid

Gareth Bale has reflected on his first few months at Real Madrid, admitting that Luka Modric has helped him adapt to life in Spain.

The Welsh winger joined Los Blancos in September for a world record €100m, and the former Tottenham man has revealed that the Croatian playmaker has been his guide, whilst also commenting on Carlo Ancelotti and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It’s been a little bit different to what I’m used to,” he told BT Sport.

“It helps, having people like Luka Modric, I knew him from Tottenham Hotspur. Just the little things like how to get to the training ground – that helps.

“Carlo is very down to earth, he likes to have a bit of banter with the players. It helps having Paul Clement, an English coach who speaks English.

Cristiano’s been so funny, messing around, giving me advice. He’s a very funny guy, always cracking a joke

When I first got here I thought: I’m just going to step away from the free-kicks!”
