Madrid, Ronaldo reach landmarks

Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo set a number of landmarks in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Los Blancos ran out 2-0 winners away to Copenhagen to close Group B’s run of fixtures and set a number of records, most centred on the team’s second goal.

Whilst the first, scored by Luka Modric, saw the capital club set a new competition record of scoring in 31 consecutive games, the second was the club’s 800th in the competition.

Also, with Ronaldo netting that second, he overtook Ruud van Nistelrooy, Pippo Inzaghi, Hernan Crespo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to become the first player in the Champions League to score nine goals during the group stages alone.

Madrid were unable to break another record on the night, but were able to match Manchester United and Barcelona’s previous high record of 20 goals scored during the group stages of the competition.
