Di Maria nearing Monaco switch

A report in Marca on Saturday morning claims Angel Di Maria is close to sealing a January move to Monaco.

The Real Madrid midfielder is reported to have reached agreement with the Ligue 1 side, with the clubs having already spoken to each other about a deal that would see around €35m change hands.

Argentine international Di Maria, 25, has been forced to play a supporting role at the Santiago Bernabeu this season, particularly since the club’s world record signing of Gareth Bale, and is aware his place in his country’s World Cup squad for next summer could be jeopardised if he does not get regular first-team action.

At Monaco he would be guaranteed a role in Claudio Ranieri’s starting line-up and also a higher salary than the one he receives with Los Blancos, who are understood to look favourably upon the operation to take him to the Stade Louis II.
