Del Bosque: It will be difficult

Vicente del Bosque believes Spain have been handed a difficult task following the draw for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Spain boss saw the holders drawn alongside Holland, Chile and Australia in Group B and confessed it would not be easy when they begin their defence of the trophy they lifted in South Africa four years ago.

“It has not been an easy draw for us and in fact it will be rather complicated. There are also other tough groups, such as the one involving Italy, Uruguay and England, but I must define ours as difficult.

“I told some close friends this morning that we would get Holland in the first game and that is how it turned out,” he told Cuatro TV channel, before assessing Spain’s opponents.

“Chile make it uncomfortable for their rivals. They apply a lot of pressure and possess some skilful and workmanlike players.

“Holland have changed the way they play but have still got [Rafael] Van der Vaart, [Arjen] Robben and [Robin] Van Persie, while Australia are an unknown quantity having qualified from the Asian group.”

Del Bosque appreciated the fact the first game will be against the Dutch.

“It’s good for the mentality. When you play a lesser team there is a problem with concentration,” he argued.
