Djukic: I’m still in charge!

Miroslav Djukic has determined that he is still ‘the highest authority’ at Valencia, amid general manager Rufete’s arrival.

Since his appointment earlier this week, Rufete and his assistants’ recording of training sessions at the club have led to reports suggesting that the Coach was ‘under observation’.

It has also been suggested that Djukic does not see eye-to-eye with Los Che’s hopes under Rufete to reorganise club infrastructure and that combined with the team’s sporting situation, defeat at the weekend could see him removed from the bench.

However, the Serb has made clear this week that he remains in control and in agreement with what is occurring.

“If I was not free then I would not be here, I have power to decide what is suitable for the team, and this will be the case until the last day I am with the team,” Djukic told reporters this week.

“These stupid things being said that I am being monitored or recorded…this is an infrastructure that big clubs have, each club uses it as they wish, but I do not see anything suspicious.

“I’m still the highest authority of the team and I do as I see fit.

“It is agreed by everyone, we have discussed that they will record training and then examine it, to see what can be cut, what can be changed, these are tools for improving aspects, which we want.

“I would not let anyone enter into my work. I am a person of integrity, there is only the infrastructure to improve.

“Until now we have not had departments, the club wants to avoid these gaps, they want this infrastructure.

“There is no suspicion. If you report it, you will realise a little more that this is what all major clubs have.”

Djukic was talking ahead of Valencia’s Europa League tie away to Swansea City. Valencia are already through to the knockout stages of the competition.

“We will play the best line-up to win this game, we want to top the group and provide a good image of ourselves to keep with a good atmosphere.

“This team have done better in their play than the results have shown. The team is much better, we need the results to reinforce that.

“Swansea are a team with their own style, they like to play with the ball, but they suffer without it. They like to have the ball and the fight will be there.

“It will be a fight for the ball to see who has the best quality with it.”
