Rufete: Djukic? We’ll see…

Rufete has been presented as Valencia’s new general manager today and taken questions on one particular responsibility – Miroslav Djukic’s future.

Djukic is under continued pressure at Los Che for a miserable start to the season at Mestalla, with defeat to Elche on Sunday night leaving the club firmly in mid-table.

At his presentation Press conference today, new general manager Rufete immediately faced questions on the matter, courtesy of President Amadeo Salvo’s new public stance on the matter.

“Things are being looked at from within. We will make an assessment of why we are here,” mused Rufete.

“Djukic is currently the Coach of Valencia and we respect him. We will do an analysis of all the work. If all was going well, I would not be here.

“I have a plan for where we are to start improving from. We have come to help the Coach.

“But there are things that will be non-negotiable, such as commitment, work…football is not only about travelling, staying in a hotel and playing 90 minutes.”

Rufete is appointed in place of the sacked sporting director Braulio Vazquez and will oversee a structural change at Valencia, similar to his work from the summer with the club’s academy.

“We have set up departments to work in favour of the player and so that the player only has to worry about performance.

“We have to do an analysis and look at how the team are and little by little we will put things together. But it may be a matter of time.

“The departments are there for the players and so that they will work in the best of conditions.”
