Salvo: I didn’t sign Djukic, so…

Amadeo Salvo has made clear that new Valencia general manager Rufete will be the one to make the call on Miroslav Djukic’s position as Coach.

The President has been vocal up to now in his support of the Serb, appointed in the summer and under a lot of pressure for a difficult start to the season, affirming publicly that he would see out at least the end of the current campaign.

However, when asked to reiterate that stance in presenting Rufete to the Press today, Salvo has put the onus on his new general manager.

“Djukic is the first team Coach. The final decision on this is with Rufete and his staff,” Salvo responded to reporters the day after Los Che’s 2-1 defeat to Elche.

“They have to analyse things. It was a question I faced in Week 5. You have to know what happens in a hotel, in a dressing room, my wish is that Djukic is the Coach of Valencia. He has signed for two years.

“But regardless of the technical and tactical analysis, when you asked me that question it was Week 5 and he was a Coach who was under pressure from Week 3.

“In the summer there was a consensus that this was the Coach to arrive. We had to close ranks around him.

“There is a new figure in Valencia and I want to be clear. Let’s see how things work. If we make that investment in a new figurehead, he has full powers.

“I did not sign Djukic and, therefore, I am not the one who has to dismiss Djukic. The President at that time said what he had to say, because the person who was responsible had not said what he had to say.

“Now there is a general manager who will say what he has to say.”
