Varane may require further surgery

Raphael Varane could face further surgery on the knee injury that prevents him playing two consecutive games.

The Real Madrid defender suffers inflammation in the joint after every game and was operated on back in May in a bid to try and cure the problem.

Despite being set a two-month recovery period at the time, the Frenchman was not able to return to first-team action until October and now, according to El Confidencial, he may be forced to go under the knife once again to try and cure the problem once and for all.

Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti said on Friday that club doctors are working closely to try and identify the extent of the injury, which prevented him from playing in the 5-0 weekend win over Almeria after featuring for France in their World Cup play-off victory over Ukraine just days earlier.
