Coentrao pens new Madrid deal

Fabio Coentrao has penned a contract extension with Real Madrid that will tie him to the club until 2018.

The Portuguese international left-back’s current agreement runs until 2017 and, according to Marca, has accepted a one-year extension that will also include an increase in salary, although the financial details have not been made public.

Coentrao joined Los Blancos from Benfica in July 2011 for a reported €30m, but was widely thought to be on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu last summer after boss Carlo Ancelotti admitted he had asked to leave.

A proposed move to Manchester United even collapsed on deadline day yet, despite playing just four La Liga games this, term the 25-year-old has had a change of heart and committed himself to the new deal

At the moment Coentrao is sidelined with a thigh injury picked up while playing for Portugal and is not expected to return until January.
