Mou blocks Barca’s Courtois move

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will reportedly attempt to block any Barcelona attempt to take Thibaut Courtois to the Camp Nou.

The Belgian international goalkeeper is on loan at Atletico Madrid from the Premier League club and has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona to replace Victor Valdes before the start of next season.

However, former Real Madrid boss Mourinho is not going to make it easy for the Catalans and, according to Marca, has even threatened to leave Courtois on the bench for the next two years in a bid to foil them.

Courtois, 21, is into his third season at the Vicente Calderon, where has developed into one of the best ‘keepers in the world, but has a contract with the Londoners until June 2016 and has already been offered a three-year extension.

Mourinho sees him as the long-term successor to Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge and is anxious to tie him up before the Catalans intensify the search for Valdes’ successor.

Barca director of football Andoni Zubizarreta has already been in contact with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with whom he has reportedly reached a verbal agreement, but he is understood to consider Courtois more of a guarantee than the German.
