‘Selling Ebert in January not feasible’

Real Valladolid’s Alberto Marcos has outlined the club’s determination to sign Patrick Ebert to a new deal, rather than sell him in January.

The German attacking midfielder has impressed in his 18 months so far with Valladolid, but sees speculation over his future returning as he approaches the final six months of his contract in January.

For his club, losing Ebert in the middle of the season is not an option they are considering.

“The departure of Patrick in the winter is not feasible for us,” sporting director Marcos has mused this week.

“It has to be a significant sum to allow him to leave in the market. What I want is that Ebert trusts me and realises that the main thing is that the team reaches its best level and that he can continue learning in a team like ours before making a jump to a big team.”

Marcos also spoke to reporters on Valladolid’s start to the season under Juan Ignacio Martinez, that has yielded just two wins from the opening 12 rounds.

“We went through a lot of adversity and I think that the team has competed in most of the matches.

“The players are under a lot of pressure, but I am certain that we will see the team that has excited us for the last two years. The work will pay off and the results will come.

“The team has great virtues and we have seen flashes. The aim should be to maintain that level for longer.

“The players are eager to get the points as soon as possible, but we must be consistent and be calm, it will come.”
