Robin Van Persie missed a penalty as Real Sociedad held out for a 0-0 draw against Manchester United.
Imanol Agirretxe was handed a start up front by Jagoba Arrasate as Haris Seferovic was dropped to the bench. David Moyes meanwhile, went with Ryan Giggs, Shinji Kagawa and Javier Hernandez.
Both teams were finding their feet early in the match, failing to create any real opportunities at goal. And it took until the 11th minute for a shot to go on target, and it was Kagawa whose shot deflected wide for a corner.
La Real were having the majority of the possession, but were having trouble creating any real opportunities against a rugged United back four.
The Premier League team meanwhile, were playing some patient stuff, but weren’t really peppering Carlo Bravo with any really noticeable efforts.
In truth, neither side were displaying much in the way of quality, and the closest La Real came to opening the scoring was weak half-volley from Agirretxe that trickled wide.
After the break, Arrasate’s men were quickest out the blocks, with Ruben Pardo immediately going for goal – but his shot didn’t cause David De Gea any real problems.
Chicarito should have found the back of the net quickly after, but was saved from embarrassment as he was adjudged to be in an offside position after missing an open goal.
Robin Van Persie came on for the Red Devils, and almost made an immediate impact, but his shot from Ashley Young’s cross could only fire back off the post.
It almost got a lot worse for the Erreala late on as Markel Bergara brought down Ashley Young inside the area, but Van Persie’s effort from the spot was brilliantly saved by Claudio Bravo though.
Marouane Fellaini receied his marching orders late on for a second bookable offence, as Real Sociedad held out for a famous draw.
