Brazil are reportedly looking to take Diego Costa’s case to FIFA, to try and block Spain’s attempts to call him up for the World Cup.
With both the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) capable of calling up the 25-year-old for upcoming international friendlies before official competition involvement cements his nationality in place, a tug of war has seemingly broken out.
Whilst providing the RFEF with relevant paperwork to complete their call-up of the Atletico Madrid striker to future squads, the CBF are increasingly seen as willing to dispute his eligibility for Spain.
On from Luiz Felipe Scolari naming him in a list of 45players ‘under consideration’ for the Selecao’s World Cup squad, the RFEF are seen as keen to hear a definitive answer from Costa over his preferred country to represent.
Reiterating reports from the start of this week, AS suggest once more today that the CBF are ready to take the case to FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, should Costa opt for Spain.
The publication suggest that CBF’s motivations in part lie on the hope of blocking La Roja from having the player at next summer’s tournament.
Brazil Coach Scolari is seen as one of those in the camp not keen to see a main rival for the World Cup effectively strengthened.
