Del Bosque hints at ‘keeper change

Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has given a broad hint that he will change his goalkeeper for Tuesday’s game against Georgia.

Barcelona stopper Victor Valdes was entrusted with the No 1 jersey for last Friday’s 2-1 victory over Belarus, but Del Bosque intimated at a Press conference that Iker Casillas could return for the final World Cup qualifier.

Del Bosque argued that he selected Valdes in Palma because he had been playing regularly for his club, unlike Casillas who has lost his place at Real Madrid to Diego Lopez.

“We will probably make some changes that could affect the goalkeeping position,” responded the 62-year-old on being questioned on the matter.

“When it happens we will talk. This is not an eternal debate. There are limits and we have three great ‘keepers, any of whom could play because they are fit and in form.

“The other day we decided to play Victor. Tomorrow [Tuesday] we will see who we decide upon.

“The problem arises because of all the possibilities we have. There are players who we can absolutely rely upon [that are not in the team] and they take it in a good way.

“If one day it goes wrong then it will be the Coach’s fault for not having confidence in one of them.

“All three are reliable yet at the same time any of them could be hit and miss,” he asserted.
