Iniesta: I’ll pen new deal

Andres Iniesta has confirmed he will pen a new deal with Barcelona, whilst insisting he has never had any thoughts of not doing so.

The Spain international’s current agreement with the Catalans expires in June 2015 and he reportedly rejected the clubs first offer of an extension last month, saying it was ‘far from his parameters’.

However, in an interview with Onda Cero’s Al Primer Toque programme, the 29-year-old was at pains to point out that he has no intention of not renewing.

“I’ve said on many occasions that it is not a question of time or situations. My wish is to stay there which is something the club wants, so the desire of both parties is clear.

“I’ve got nothing else in my head. If there was anything then the club would already know and so would the people who need to know. I’ve got some years left to continue playing at the top level and that’s what I want to do.

“I dislike using the word negotiation in these cases because no situation is resolved in just two or three months,” explained Iniesta, who was questioned on some of his substitutions in the rotation policy implemented by boss Tata Martino this season.

“My vision is always positive and obviously I can play better and be better, that’s for sure, but we have a Coach who decides how to manage the team.

“The important thing is that we all feel useful and participate. The aim is to feel good when we do play.”

Iniesta also referred to his friend Victor Valdes’ decision to leave the club when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

“It is a brave, bold decision. I don’t really know what to call it but it is a personal thing that he has made totally clear for some time.

“It’s not easy to say no to Barcelona right now and I wish he was with us for many more years, but everyone has their own personal issues,” he concluded.
