Malaga midfielder Ignacio Camacho claims he is not ruling out leaving the club, having been disappointed with his start to the season.
The Spain Under-21 international joined the Costa del Sol outfit from Atletico Madrid in December 2010 and was a key part of former boss Manuel Pellegrini’s team that reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season.
However, under Bernd Schuster he has had to take a back seat this term, with the German preferring Fernando Tissone and youngster Sergi Darder in his central midfield. It is situation Camacho is finding it difficult to come to terms with, as he told Onda Cero.
“I decided to stay this year for my continuity in the team and because of the club, but at the moment my expectations are not being met.
“I didn’t expect this to happen but it’s a long season and I’ll keep working hard, so we’ll see what happens.
“Last season was a great one for me and I didn’t think this one would be any different. But that’s what happens,” he lamented.
The 23-year-old did not rule out the possibility he could depart La Rosaleda in the January transfer window.
“A move in winter? I’m not going to say no. The idea was that I’d be an important part of the team this year and I’m not. Nonetheless, only two months have gone so we’ll see what happens.
“My role in the team is to work and it is the Coach who decides. Right now he prefers other workers but I want to play at the top level.
“I try to be happy and that’s what I am in training, but playing in a match is completely different,” said Camacho, who hopes to earn a place in Bernd Schuster’s starting line-up for next week’s trip to Real Madrid.
