‘We’ll evaluate Diego renewal’

Wolfsburg Coach Dieter Hecking has said that the club need to ‘see if it makes sense’ signing Atletico Madrid target Diego Ribas to a new deal.

The Brazilian has continually been linked with a return to the Vicente Calderon, on from a successful loan spell for the 2011-12 season.

Having remained in Germany, though, the playmaker once more sees his future up for speculation, with the club’s Coach cooling

“We have to see if it makes sense to extend the contract of Ivica Olic, and the same with Diego,” considered Hecking to Die Welt this week.

“We must evaluate if he [Diego] suits the style of game that we want, or if we are basing our game to be too dependent on him alone.

“There are the economic conditions in place to sign these players again, but we want to escape the belief that Wolfsburg’s players are here just for money.”

Diego’s current contract with the Bundesliga outfit runs until June 2014, so from January he will be able to negotiate with other clubs, should Wolfsburg not act.
