Argentina to still call Messi?

Reports are that Argentina Coach Alejandro Sabella is still keen to call up Barcelona forward Lionel Messi this month, despite his injury.

The Catalans have reported over the weekend that the 26-year-old’s thigh injury sustained during Saturday’s 2-0 win at Almeria may require as long as three weeks to fully recover.

Whilst this means that he is seen as unfit to take part in Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Peru and Uruguay, Sabella is reportedly still interested in calling him up.

It is believed that the 58-year-old, whose side has already assured automatic qualification to Brazil 2014 ahead of these closing CONMEBOL qualifiers, will request permission that Messi continue his recovery with the Argentine squad.

Should the club give permission, then it is expected that Messi will travel out for the early-October fixtures escorted, as usual, by a member of the medical staff from Barcelona, thought on this occasion most likely to be Juanjo Brau.

The Barca No 10’s recovery could be only two weeks, in which case he may be available for Argentina’s second match with Uruguay.
