Spanish cities up for Euro 2020

The Spanish Football Federation have put forward four cities to possibly host matches at the 2020 European Championships.

UEFA have today listed that 32 member associations have declared an interest in hosting games at that year’s edition of the tournament.

A total of 39 cities have been put forward by those member associations for consideration, with Spain putting volunteering more than any other country.

Four cities have been offered up for consideration from the RFEF, with Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Valencia all now in contention to be one of the final 13 cities chosen to host games during Euro 2020.

UEFA are hosting that year’s edition of the tournament across multiple countries to mark the competition’s 60th anniversary.

In listing the 39 prospective cities put forward, the European body has also clarified that a maximum of one city per country will be awarded hosting rights.

“The final tournament will be staged in 13 cities across Europe, following a decision taken by the UEFA Executive Committee in January 2013,” read UEFA’s statement released today.

“The matches will be split into 13 different packages, with 12 standard packages, including three group matches and one knockout round (round of 16 or quarter-finals), and one package for the semi-finals and the final.

“Each of the 32 associations will be allowed to present up to two bids – one for the standard package and one for the semi-finals/final package.

“Each national association can decide to present the same city, or two different cities, for these two bids, but there will be a maximum of one venue appointed per country.

“The candidates have the right to change their initial host city selection, but must submit their final bid dossier by 25 April 2014.”
