La Real learn harsh CL lesson

Alex Teixeira scored two late goals to give Shakhtar Donetsk an undeserved 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad this evening.

Jagoba Arrasate opted for Haris Seferovic and Carlos Vela to lead the line against the Ukrainian side, despite Imanol Agirretxe recovering from injury.

It was Antoine Griezmann who got things underway though, firing an effort within the first three minutes. The shot though, was saved well by Andriy Pyatov.

The away side were enjoying the majority of the possession, but with the match being played at such a frantic pace, neither side could really get a grasp on the game.

La Real soon started knocking on the door though. First Vela and then Xabi Prieto should have done better with their efforts on goal, but both were denied by a mixture of good defending and poor finishing.

After the break, La Real continued to press for an opening, but were caught napping midway through the half by Mircea Lucescu’s men. A neat flick from Douglas Costa found Teixeira, whose low drive found the back of the net.

The Anoeta side kept pushing for a goal and creating decent chances, but once again, the Ukranians made their wastefulness pay with a late goal.

Teixeira again drifted in from the left, before lasering an effort into the far corner to seal all three points.
