Real Madrid defender Pepe has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest Portuguese player of all time.
The attacker bagged a hat-trick on Friday in the Selecao’s 4-2 win over Northern Ireland to go above Eusebio as the country’s second-highest goalscorer in history.
“I respect Eusebio and other players a lot,” he told RTP. “But Ronaldo is the symbol of Portugal.
“Through the goals he’s scored already, he is a player who is, and has, left a big mark on football.
“He always wants to help and be available. He was not in the best condition against Northern Ireland, but he played because he knows how important he is for Portugal.”
