Griezmann denies Athletic contact

Real Sociedad’s Antoine Griezmann has played down rumours that Athletic Bilbao were contemplating a last minute move for him.

The Frenchman, who has been linked with Real’s Basque rivals in the past, was this Monday suggested as Athletic’s first-choice recruitment, if Ander Herrera had completed a move out to Manchester United.

“I have no idea why, I do not know who published that,” Griezmann has reflected this week, though.

“I am here enjoying my time with La Real. I have not received any calls from anyone at Athletic, I have been spending these past few days with my brother.

“And if they call, you what I think and perfectly know what my answer will be, but I do not care about that stuff.

“It is better for me and for Real, so that we are more focused and relaxed here.”

Focus this season is split between the League and Champions League.

“Every time I face the Press there is more focus on the Champions League, whilst we have to focus on the League, no matter if people are talking about other things.

“It is normal, though, as this does not happen every day.”

La Real are into the international break off the back of a close 2-1 loss at home to Atletico Madrid.

“It always hurts to lose, we gave it our all and we were close to equalising, we will look back on what we did wrong and it will come in handy for us to realise that everything is going to be very difficult in the League.”
