Messi hopes for Neymar connection

Lionel Messi has reflected briefly on his initial work at Barcelona under new Coach Tata Martino and with new strike-partner Neymar.

The Argentine finds his compatriot leading the team this season after Tito Vilanova’s resignation in the summer due to ill health, and the Brazilian in attack with him after a €57m transfer.

“With Tata, the truth is that he has gone down well in the dressing room and we are working fine,” mused Messi in conversation this week with CN23.

“With Neymar things are good. He is a very good guy, humble and little by little we will know more and make more connections together.”

Barca recently played out two draws with Atletico Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana, but won the season-opener’s trophy on away goals.

“The two games were tough, even for how they went as games. Atleti were closed at the back, they were good on the counter-attack. Luckily we finished as winners.”

Messi is currently on international duty, with Argentina just a step away from confirming their place in the 2014 World Cup. A win against Paraguay will ensure qualification.

“It is difficult, like all qualifying matches, but we are almost qualified, which is what we want – to do so as soon as possible will allow us to prepare for the World Cup.

“I think that we are on the right track, achieving significant results against teams that are at our level.”
