Siqueira ‘signed’ for Madrid

At one point during the final day of the transfer window, Granada full-back Guilherme Siqueira had reportedly signed up with Real Madrid.

Yesterday saw Manchester United’s late and ultimately unsuccessful loan bid for Fabio Coentrao result in Madrid delaying Benfica’s loan capture of Siqueira.

Whilst Coentrao’s exit collapsed and Siqueira completed his temporary switch from Granada to Benfica, subject to FIFA ratification, the Brazilian full-back was at one point ‘signed’ to Madrid.

Reports in Spain are that the 27-year-old’s agent kept him at an airport in Portugal ahead of meeting with Benfica, having been contacted by a Madrid official.

A fax was apparently sent through to the airport with a contract from Real Madrid to sign Siqueira for the season on an initial loan.

The player is understood to have penned his signature on this contract and sent it back to the capital club, only for delays on Coentrao’s exit seeing Siqueira follow through with his deal with Benfica instead.
