Ozil to Arsenal confirmed

Sky Sports News has confirmed tonight that midfielder Mesut Ozil has joined Arsenal from Real Madrid.

The German international underwent a medical in Munich on Monday evening, where he is currently with his national team, and brings to and end his three-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu following his signing from Werder Bremen in August 2010 for €18m.

Ozil, 24, is understood to have penned a five-year deal at the Emirates Stadium with AS reporting the transfer fee to be €45m plus another €4.6m in add-ons, while the player himself will receive an annual salary of €8.5m.

A key figure in Ozil’s capture is believed to have been Arsenal defender and Ozil’s international teammate Per Mertesacker, who has convinced him to make the switch to the Premier League.

Despite being a regular at the Santiago Bernabeu under former boss Jose Mourinho, Ozil has seen competition in the Madrid midfield hot up this season following the signings of Isco, Asier Illarramendi and Gareth Bale.
