‘Don’t care if Bale debuts against us’

Villarreal Vice-President Jose Manuel Llaneza says he is not fussed whether or not Gareth Bale debuts for Real Madrid against his team.

The Welshman has completed a €91m-€100m transfer from Tottenham and was presented to over 20,000 fans today at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Having had a disrupted summer, attention has been on whether he will be fit in time to make his debut for Los Blancos in Week 4’s trip to Villarreal after the international break.

However, those at El Madrigal are not so interested.

“It’s something that does not interest me much,” Llaneza told reporters today.

“My concern is not Bale, nor his signing, but Villarreal. On this, I do not care. If they have signed Bale, that’s fine, if they hadn’t, that would have been fine too.

“I just care about Villarreal and what happens to our team. The rest is a matter for each club and I do not judge anyone.

“David Beckham also played his first game for Madrid at Villarreal, but that is simply anecdotal.”
