Ronaldo reluctant to make UEFA Gala

Reports in Madrid are doubtful as to whether or not Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo is heading out to Monaco for the UEFA Gala today.

The event, which will also host the Champions League group stage draw, is due to be attended by the Portuguese, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery, as the trio make up the shortlisted candidates for the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award.

However, where Messi and Ribery’s attendance has already been confirmed, Marca and AS suggest that UEFA and Madrid are still working to convince Ronaldo to show up as well.

The 28-year-old is reportedly reluctant to travel out to the principality for the gala in preference of playing with Los Blancos in the Trofeo Teresa Herrera against Deportivo this evening.

Ronaldo’s reluctance to attend is believed to be in part due to the experience at last year’s event, when, expected to be competing with Messi for the same award, it was handed to Andres Iniesta instead.
