‘If Bale’s worth €100m…’

Hristo Stoichkov has hit out at Gareth Bale’s behavior this week as well as his price tag and potential to succeed at Real Madrid.

The Welshman is the subject of delayed negotiations between Tottenham and Real Madrid over a proposed world record transfer.

Having seen talks stall over Spurs’ reportedly receiving bids from other teams, the player skipped training on Tuesday and is again not present on Wednesday.

“Bale is disrespecting his teammates at Tottenham by not training,” began former Barcelona man Stoichkov in conversation with Al Primer Toque on Onda Cero this week.

“No Englishman who came to Spanish football has triumphed.

“If Bale is worth €100m, then I would have been priceless. There should be a cap on spending so that the smaller teams can compete.”

The Bulgarian then turned his attention to his former side Barca, who under new Coach Tata Martino are in contention for a first trophy of the season in hosting Atletico Madrid tonight in the Supercopa de Espana second leg.

“A Coach who has been there two weeks, as Martino has, cannot change all that much, it is a machine that runs itself.

“Barcelona are clear favourite to win the Supercopa. Nobody can doubt that El Cholo has charisma and character, but Barcelona will be a step up.”

The UEFA Super Cup is also played this week between Bayern Munich and Chelsea, with former Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola up against former Real Madrid man Jose Mourinho.

“With Pep Guardiola I played for many year, and Mourinho I came across as a Coach. Mourinho has made history in world football.

“Who will win? I think it will be a draw. Well, if I’m honest, I think Bayern Munich will win.”
